Teeth whitening is the easiest, most popular and most cost effective way of improving the appearance of your smile. The effect is achieved by lightening the natural colour of teeth without removing or damaging the surface.

At Reva Dental, we offer two options for achieving your desired shade of whiteness:

HOME WHITENING

Home Whitening is generally suitable where a patient is happy to achieve a more gradual whitening effect. Or if you have had In-Surgery teeth whitening, home whitening is a good way to ensure your whiter teeth are maintained over time.

At your Home Whitening appointment, the dentist with take impressions of your teeth, from which a study model is made. This is sent to our lab where specially moulded trays (or ‘pockets’) are made which will fit your teeth perfectly. Approximately three days after your initial appointment these will be ready and will be given to you along with your home whitening kit which also includes special teeth whitening solution. This solution is added to the tray ensuring that it only comes into contact with the required surfaces and that no damage is done to the soft gums. You can wear the tray while asleep or for short periods during the day or at night with results normally seen over 1-2 weeks.

IN-SURGERY & HOME WHITENING

For people who are looking for an immediate result we also offer In-Surgery laser teeth whitening, whereby we can significantly whiten teeth in a one-hour visit, brightening your teeth to their optimum natural shade. Our laser teeth whitening system includes variable intensity so each treatment can be customised to maximise patient comfort. The system also includes desensitisers to help minimise sensitivity and protect your enamel. Your lips and gums are covered and a gel is applied to your teeth. A special LED light is positioned over your teeth to activate the gel, which gently penetrates your teeth, breaking up stains and discolouration.

Please note that we offer In-Surgery whitening only in combination with Home Whitening. This ensures that you can get an immediate result and also that results can be maintained over time.

All whitening procedures are carried out by our experienced staff so the procedure is safe, effective and clinically proven.

frequently asked questions

HOW WHITE WILL MY TEETH BE AT THE END OF TREATMENT?

This depends on a number of factors and results will vary between patients. Generally speaking, we will get your teeth to as white as they were when you were a teenager (sometimes whiter). Our system will get your teeth to as white as they will naturally go. We expect an improvement of 3-4 shades from any treatment. We take an initial shade of your teeth to show the difference at the end of treatment.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Some people get the result they want after 1 session, while most people see results from the whitening procedure within a couple of days.

DOES IT HURT TO HAVE YOUR TEETH WHITENED?

80% of people will get some form of sensitivity with teeth whitening. This is usually mild and normally resolves within 48 hours. The whitening gel we use helps to open up thousands of tiny ‘tubes’ in the enamel, which in turn allows cold to enter the tooth more easily. After teeth whitening treatment, it takes about 24 hours for these tubes to close and during this time people may have some sensitivity to cold foods/drinks.

WILL MY TEETH REMAIN PERMANENTLY WHITE?

No. Results will generally last for 6 months to 2 years. This will vary due to lifestyle (e.g. drinking lots of tea or coffee), wear and tear and ageing. The idea of a home whitening system is that if you feel the teeth have become darker over a period of time, then the effect can be improved again by using the kit from time to time.

IS THE PROCESS HARMFUL TO TEETH?

Absolutely Not! The effect on teeth is no different to the effect from commonly ingested foods or regular dental procedures.

WILL THE GEL WHITEN CROWNS, VENEERS OR FALSE TEETH?

No. The procedure will only remove staining from natural teeth.

If you are planning to have a crown, bridge, filling or false tooth, it is recommended that you first have your teeth whitened. We can then match the shade to your new colour.
